Tsechok Palmo works as a receptionist in Jawalakhel Handicraft Center. She says that the amount of love and respect she has for animals is what has made her who she is today. She was originally inspired to feed the animals by her late grandmother who used to feed leftovers to the dogs, when she did Kora (circumambulation) around the Buddhist Temple inside the grounds of the refugee community. After watching her Grandmother's noble act Palmo was inspired to be become better human being, and followed in her footsteps. As she fed the animals her love for them increased. Palmo uses her own salary from the handicraft center to feed, neuter, spay and give health care to the otherwise abandoned street animals.Below in her own words she describes her journey.
Tashi Delek,
I am Tsechok Palmo from Nepal. I hope you are well. I am sending mail to you with the help of sis Yangpa. I am feeder of dogs, cats and birds and I work at the Jawalakhel handicraft Center.
I live in Tibetan camp located in Ekantakuna, Nepal. I love animals a lot. It's been more than a decade serving food to dogs and cats. I started feeding dogs within my community and now I feed dogs outside of my community as well. There are around 10-12 dogs I feed in my community and more than 30 dogs outside of my community. To feed those 30 dogs, I wake up around 6 am and ride an Uber bike to reach to the destination which is quite far from my place. I feed them cooked rice and cooked meat every two days. About my community dogs, i feed them after my work which finishes at 5pm.
During the feeding, the crows will witness on the long cable wire waiting for my food too. For them I give chicken meat which I make into pieces. With the 14 cats, I feed them chicken liver with rice and cat food which cost me Npr. 5,500 for 15 Kilo.
They love and enjoy my food!
Beside food, I take care of their sterilisation, medical and emergency treatment by calling vet for treatment. I love helping them and I hope to continue helping the stray animals as much as possible. What worries me is the expense! When my expenses exceed my bugdet limit, it becomes very difficult. So I would be very grateful to receive help from you to smoothly feed, treat and spay them.
Thank you
